KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 31

So far, 121 people have died and 28 have gone missing in incidents of disaster since October 18, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

The National Emergency Operations Centre under the ministry said 44 people were injured and 179 houses damaged due to disaster-related incidents throughout the country. The loss of life and property occurred because of the disasters triggered by incessant rain from October 17 to October 20.

Precipitation was caused by the combined influence of two weather systems that developed a week after the exit of the monsoon. The eastern and far-western regions of the country were badly affected by torrential rains. Large landslides triggered by the rains resulted in the loss of human lives. The highest number of casualties was reported on October 20. A total of 63 people were killed and 19 went missing due to rain-induced disasters on that day. Likewise, 29 people died on October 21 and 13 persons were killed on October 22.

According to the ministry, search is under way for people who have gone missing in the disaster-related incidents while shelters are being managed for those displaced due to the same reason.
