India and Nepal on Tuesday signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for eight High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in the education, health and agriculture sectors, with a combined estimated cost of Rs 803 million.
The MoUs were signed by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration and the respective project implementing agencies of the Government of Nepal.
The projects include the digitalisation of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, construction of an agricultural production collection and sales centre in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-9 of Bhojpur, and a municipal agricultural and livestock centre in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality-6 of Dhading.
Other projects include construction of the Belbari Multiple Campus building in Morang, a 10-bed hospital in Dungeshwor Rural Municipality-5 of Dailekh, an agriculture promotion centre in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-4 of Humla, a cold store in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-4 of Syangja, and a 15-bed hospital building in Barju Rural Municipality of Sunsari.
The projects will be implemented through local authorities and institutions of the Government of Nepal with grant assistance from India.
According to the Indian Embassy, India has undertaken 605 HICDPs in Nepal since 2003, including the eight projects covered by the latest agreements. Of these, 512 have been completed in sectors including health, education, agriculture, drinking water, connectivity, sanitation and public utilities, while the remaining projects are at various stages of implementation.
The embassy said the projects reflect India’s continued support for Nepal’s development efforts and infrastructure in priority sectors.
