KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has called for national unity to press the international community for climate justice following the Bhotekoshi flood disaster.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Lamichhane said all political parties had stood together after the disaster and urged them to maintain the same spirit of unity and humanity in shaping Nepal’s future.

He said the government was conducting search and rescue operations around the clock using all available resources and added that grievances expressed by bereaved families should not be viewed negatively.

Lamichhane warned against insensitive comments on social media targeting those expressing grief and anger, saying action should be taken against anyone involved, including RSP members. He urged the government to enforce the law.

He called on the government to consider constructive suggestions from the opposition in disaster management and urged political parties not to engage in politics over the disaster.

“Paying tribute to those who lost their lives due to the disproportionate burden of the climate crisis is not enough. We must muster the courage to demand justice from the world,” Lamichhane said.

He praised security personnel and others involved in search and rescue operations, thanked friendly countries for their support, and commended the contributions of the private sector, media and Nepali diaspora to the disaster response.
