Cops flee after arrest warrant

RAUTAHAT, DECEMBER 15

Three police personnel have been absconding after an arrest warrant was issued against them by Rautahat District Police Office.

Three police personnel, including Inspector Nabin Kumar Singh, were suspended on the charge of torturing Bijay Ram to death while he was in the custody of Garuda Area Police Office, Rautahat.

Bijay Ram, 19, was arrested for his alleged involvement in connection with the murder of Niranjan Ram, 20, at Jigdiya of Garuda Municipality, Rautahat, on August 15. Bijay was reportedly tortured, and he died at National Medical College, Birgunj, on August 26.

After locals staged a series of protest against the death of Bijay Ram, police probed the incident. Inspector Nabin Kumar Singh, head constables Hiroj Miya Dhuniya and Mannu Kumar Singh, were suspended on August 26.

Then SP Rabiraj Khadka of District Police Office was recalled to Police Headquarters while DSP Gyan Kumar Mahato was recalled to Province Police Office and investigation was launched into the death of Bijay Ram. After Bijay Ram’s family members filed a murder case against the three suspended police personnel, District Police Office had issued an arrest warrant against them 15 days ago.
