Nepali Congress will resist PM Oli’s unconstitutional move to dissolve parliament: NC leaders

KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress has said the Prime Minister’s move to dissolve the parliament is authoritarian and that the party will resist it.

Nepali Congress said it would politically resist the PM’s action and has urged people to act together to protect the constitution and the democratic system.

NC will foil the last ditch effort of PM’s authoritarian aspirations, party’s spokesperson Bishwaprakash Sharma shared on Twitter.

Similarly, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel stated that the PM’s attempt to dissolve the parliament is against the constitution, against the democratic system and the country itself.  He further elaborated that the constitution does not have such provision and the President should not approve the recommendation.”The parliament dissolution recommendation should be rescinded.”

“I denounce this non-democratic act of pushing the country and democracy to instability and crisis,” Paudel criticised PM’s move.

Likewise, NC lawmaker Gagan Thapa said that the constitution has provisioned that the parliament will operate for five years and the PM’s act to render it functionless the parliament before time is unconstitutional.

“With this act, regardless of the constitutional explanation of the move in the coming days, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has lost it credibility that the people had given it through election three years ago,” Thapa shared on his social networking profile.

It has been learnt that Nepali Congress has called for an emergency meet following the PM Oli’s attempt to dissolute the parliament.

The Prime Minister had summoned an out-of-schedule meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday morning after a series of meetings with party’s top leadership and ministers on Saturday in which PM Oli recommended dissolution of the Parliament.
