DHADING, DECEMBER 24
Construction of the Sisnekhola-Nagdhunga tunnel road has finally begun after a long wait.
According to the tunnel road project Chief Engineer Nareshman Shakya, tunnel digging started from Tuesday from Sisnekhola point of Tribhuvan Highway in Dhunibesi Municipality, Dhading.
Once the construction is finished, the tunnel road will greatly ease the huge traffic congestion often seen on the Naubise-Nagdhunga section of the highway. The 2.38-km tunnel road will have two lanes each 3.5 metres wide and will reduce the Naubise-Thankot distance by 8km.
Under the project, 2.3km road up to Thankot’s Basnet Chhap and 565 metres from Sisnekhola of Dhunibesi of Dhading will also be upgraded and black-topped.
After conducting surveys in different phases, the government had finally taken the national glory project ahead.
As per the contract, the contractor Hazama Ando Corporation will finish the project and hand it over to the government by April 2023.
More than 300 workers are deployed at the project site at present.
