Achham District Administration Office offered warm blankets to elderly citizens with the onset of winter in the district.
The administration distributed blankets to service-seekers who came to the office seeking various services from December 16.
Chief District Officer Gokarna Prasad Upadhaya said the blankets were given to poor elderly citizens.
He said preparation was under way to provide blankets to other elders as well. According to the administration, as many as 20 service-seekers have received blankets from the office till date.
Seventy-year-old Kaldhari Saud of Mallekh Rural Municipality reached the office to get her work done. She said she received a blanket along with service from the office.
Poverty-stricken Saud said she was happy to receive the blanket.
Similarly, Belu Sunar, 72, of Mangalsain Municipality was also happy after receiving a warm blanket to battle the cold.
The district administration has launched a campaign to protect elders from the chilling cold. Assistant CDO Ranjan Prasad Timalsena said they helped the poor elders with blankets without any directive from the home ministry.
Locals said the campaign was praiseworthy as the blankets helped the poor battle the winter cold. They said it was a new initiative of the administration.
Civil Society member Dhruba Sunar said the administration had provided efficient and prompt service to people.
