KATHMANDU: Former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Nepal proceeded towards the Election Commission after holding a mass protest against the dissolution of parliament by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Kathmandu, this afternoon.
The rally called by Nepal-Dahal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party headed towards the Election Commission with a joint letter following which a press conference was scheduled.
They hit the streets today in protest of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s controversial move of parliament dissolution.
The group had carried out a demonstration this morning at Maitighar Mandala in the capital. Two top leaders of the faction Dahal and Nepal along with Jhalanath Khanal and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, among others, were present at the protests.
On December 20, PM Oli had recommended the dissolution of House of Representatives, which was promptly approved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, creating much chaos within the political sphere of the country, while also putting Bhandari’s intentions into questioning.
Dahal-Nepal side of the ruling NCP has defined PM’s move of dismantling the House of Representatives as unconstitutional and undemocratic. Supporting this claim, many people had come out into the streets in the days following the HoR dissolution.
