As COVID-19 Cases on a Decline, Gradual Unlocking Begins in Nepal!

The Himalayan nation has witnessed a gradual decrease in single-day infections since the start of June. The new COVID-19 cases dropped from around 5,800 to 1,700 in the last 15 days.

With the drastic decrease in coronavirus cases, the Nepali Government has started easing the lockdown restriction gradually.

In line with it, the government is making preparations to resume domestic flight operations from June end. Nepal has banned domestic flight since May 3, citing the emergence of the coronavirus second wave.

“Preparations are underway to resume domestic flights from June 29,” said the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

In the last 24 hours, Nepal has reported 1,768 positive cases, taking the nation’s total COVID-19 caseload to 615,984.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Kathmandu Valley reported the highest number of cases across all the regions.

A total of 570 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in the Valley, including 413 in Kathmandu district, 121 in Lalitpur district, and 36 in Bhaktapur district.

Meanwhile, 2,141 patients have recovered successfully from the infection on Wednesday, taking the total recovery cases to 545,662. Currently, there are 61,725 active cases in the country.

Unfortunately, 39 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus infection, taking the nation’s death toll to 8,597.
