Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital successfully carried out surgery of gastric cancer for the first time.
Chief of the hospital Dr Prakash Thapa said a team led by gastro surgeon Dr Dhruba Sha had carried out the successful surgery of gastric cancer. The team operated on Rudra Bahadur Pun, 58, of Bheriganga Municipality. Pun was diagnosed with gastric cancer through endoscopy five months ago. He was referred to Chitwan-based Cancer Hospital. But he was again admitted to Bheri Hospital after excessive stomach pain a month ago.
Anaesthesiologists Dr Paras Pandey and Tara Acharya were also in the team. The surgery was performed on November 28. Pun was discharged after 11 days.
Doctors said gastric cancer patients experience excessive stomach pain They said chest pain, stomach burning, vomiting of blood and passing black stool were the major symptoms of the disease.
