NEPALGUNJ, DECEMBER 19
The chilling cold followed by cold wave and thick fog has badly affected life in the west Tarai districts, including Banke and Bardiya.
People’s movement and the number of vehicles plying the roads have gone down in the main bazaar areas and trade centres due to excessive cold in the last two days in the districts.
Nepalgunj Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chairman Abdul Bahim Mansuri said bazaar areas wore a deserted look.
Shops with geyser, heater and warm clothes were open. Rickshaw pullers and daily wage earners, among others, have been affected badly due to the bone biting cold.
Patients with common cold have increased in government and private hospitals of Nepalgunj.
Patients with pneumonia, diarrhoea, among other seasonal diseases, have also increased in Nepalgunj Medical College.
Dr M Kidawai said children and elderly have reached the hospital with cold related problems.
He urged people to adopt health safety measures.
Dr Sanket Kumar Risal at Bheri Hospital said that seasonal patients had increased in the hospital. He said more attention had to be given to children and elderly people. He requested all to wear warm clothes and warm themselves in front of the heater.
Almost all air services from Nepalgunj have been affected for the last three days due to poor visibility, thick fog and cold wave.
