KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 20

CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged the government to set up an agriculture assistance fund to provide relief to flood and landslide-hit farmers.

He said in a press release today that farmers were mostly affected by floods and landslides, and urged the government to provide relief and compensation to them.

The rice crop has been damaged massively due to incessant rainfall that occurred during harvest time. Dahal has also urged the government to make arrangements for rescue and relief to citizens trapped in flood and landslide, provide free medical treatment to those injured in the disasters, and to make provisions for food and shelter to those displaced and rendered homeless.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said 48 people died and more than 30 went missing in flood, landslide, and inundation cased by incessant rainfall for the last three days in various parts of the country, including in Province 1 and Sudurpaschim.

Dahal paid tribute to citizens killed in the natural disaster and extended condolences to members of the bereaved families.

He especially appealed to the local, province and federal government bodies, including security bodies, local volunteers, various organisations, individuals, youths, and party leaders and cadres to intensify their search for those missing in flood and landslide.
