KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 16
Waste collection and disposal services in the Kathmandu Valley will be disrupted for four days during Dashain as sanitation workers at the Banchare Danda landfill take leave to celebrate the festival.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City said waste management operations at the Valley’s sole final disposal site will be affected from October 18 to 21, potentially causing a temporary buildup of garbage during the peak festival period.
To prevent waste from piling up on streets and public spaces, the metropolis has urged residents, businesses and offices to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and store it within their premises until regular collection resumes.
Officials also requested the public not to dump waste indiscriminately on roadsides and open spaces during the suspension period.
KMC said waste collection and disposal services will continue as normal on days outside the four-day festival break.
