BHAIRAHAWA, OCTOBER 7
Three people have died and 380 have fallen ill due to diarrhoea, which has spread in eight villages of three wards of Krishnanagar Municipality, Kapilvastu.
According to District Health Office, many people are suffering from diarrhoea and nausea in Wards 7, 8, and 9 of Krishnanagar Municipality.
“So far, five-year-old Raj Kashyap of Ward 9 of Krishnanagar, Ram Prasad Kewat, 40, of Ward 8, and an elderly person of Ward 7 have lost their lives,” said a ward chairperson, Ram Milan Kurmi.
Persons suffering from diarrhoea had reached the hospital for treatment after their condition got worse. Sick people are undergoing treatment at health facilities in Nepal and India.
Mukesh Chaudhary, a doctor in Shivaraj Hospital, Bahadurgunj, said seven people whose condition was critical had been referred elsewhere for advanced treatment.
Krishnanagar Municipality Mayor Rajat Pratap Shah said people were being treated in private clinics as more of them were falling ill. “In view of the large number of patients, we have asked the health ministry of the province to send a team of health workers here,” Shah said.
Meanwhile, it is yet to be confirmed how the outbreak spread. Many believe that it might be due to consumption of contaminated water and piles of garbage dumped around water sources.
