Germany has announced assistance worth around €8 million to support communities affected by the recent Bhotekoshi floods and Nepal’s recovery efforts.
The assistance combines emergency relief, humanitarian support and development cooperation, according to the German Embassy in Kathmandu.
Germany is providing more than €500,000 in emergency assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism at the request of the Nepali government. The relief supplies include kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, drinking-water equipment and camp beds.
Germany will also provide €200,000 in direct humanitarian assistance to two civil society organisations. One project will support pregnant women, new mothers and newborns affected by the disaster, while another will focus on income opportunities for affected households, infrastructure recovery and improving conditions in displacement camps.
An additional €7.35 million has been mobilised through Germany’s development cooperation programme. The funding, to be implemented by GIZ, will support health and energy services, including access to essential healthcare, water and energy supplies.
Germany also said it would support Nepal’s longer-term efforts to develop climate- and disaster-resilient infrastructure.
Separately, the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund has mobilised $2.5 million, while the European Union has mobilised €2.5 million for humanitarian assistance following the disaster.
Germany said its civil society organisations were also providing assistance on the ground in coordination with local partners and the Nepali government.
“Germany stands with the people of Nepal in this difficult time,” the embassy said, expressing solidarity with victims and their families.
