KATHMANDU, AUGUST 3

The government has unveiled the National Transport Policy, 2083, replacing a transport policy that had remained largely unchanged for nearly 25 years.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport said the new policy aims to develop an integrated transport network that is sustainable, accessible, safe, environmentally friendly and technology-driven. It seeks to promote balanced development across road, rail, waterways and aviation to build a modern and efficient transport system.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal said the policy focuses on improving the quality of public transportation, strengthening road safety, encouraging the adoption of green technologies and expanding digital transport services.

According to the ministry, the revised policy has been aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and updated to address rapid technological advances, urbanisation and the challenges posed by climate change.
