JHAPA, OCTOBER 20

Several parts of Province 1 have been affected by extremely heavy rain, leading to extensive damage and waterlogging in the past few days.

It has been learnt that incessant rains have led to vehicles getting submerged in low-lying areas.

Likewise, rice paddy crops across the province have been submerged or washed away, damaging tons of ready-to-harvest produce.

Several parts of the province continue to face power cuts after the main substation at Duhabi in Sunsari was submerged on Tuesday due to the downpour.

Residents in Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabhua and Bhojpur reported extended power cuts.

Bad weather affected flight operations across the province. Air carriers could not operate services to various hilly as well as plain areas since incessant rains and overcast weather have led to air-travel adverse conditions.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, in a forecast for the next two days, said that there are chances of heavy rainfall in some places and light to moderate snowfall in the eastern mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, at least 43 people have died and another 30 are missing after three days of heavy rainfall that triggered landslides and flash floods in the country.
