The International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed all the three one-day tri-series of the 2019–23 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 due to the Covid-19-related travel restrictions worldwide.
“The postponements are due to the current travel restrictions between countries, the quarantine time required before matches, and the recent surge in COVID-19 cases,” said the ICC.
“The ICC’s priority continues to be to protect the well-being of players, coaches, officials, and fans. We have fully assessed the situation with both hosts and all participating members, and considering the current situation, the best course of action was to postpone these series,” said ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley.
The three postponed tri-series are as follows:
- Series between Oman (host), USA, and Nepal on March 19-28
- Series between Papua New Guinea (host), Oman, and Scotland on April 14-24
- Series between Papua New Guinea (host), USA, and Namibia May 13-23
Now, the ICC is planning to reschedule this postponed tri-series before the cut-off date of February 28, 2023.
“We are actively working with Members to identify suitable windows to reschedule the three series. The window for rescheduling fixtures has been extended to the latest possible date to provide the best opportunity for qualification to be determined on the field of play,” said Tetley.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has also issued a statement on Friday regarding the postponement of the series to be held in Oman in March.
