KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 30
A two-day police operation across Kathmandu led to the arrest of 97 people, including 16 convicted offenders who had been absconding, as authorities stepped up security ahead of the festive season.
The operation, conducted between October 28 and 29, also resulted in the arrest of six suspects wanted in pending criminal cases. Among those detained were 82 men and 15 women, according to Kathmandu police.
Special police teams carried out surveillance and checks at bus parks, public transport hubs, crowded marketplaces and areas surrounding government offices, locations authorities identified as particularly vulnerable to theft, robbery, harassment and other criminal activities.
Police said the campaign was aimed at strengthening public security, maintaining order and identifying individuals involved in criminal offences. Areas with large numbers of travellers and service-seekers were given priority during the operation.
Authorities said investigations into those arrested are continuing and indicated that similar security checks and surveillance measures will remain in place as part of broader crime-control efforts in the capital.
