Main opposition Nepali Congress declares nationwide protest on December 28

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress has decided to go on a nationwide protest against dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The nationwide protest has been planned for Monday, December 28. A decision to this effect was taken at the party’s central working committee meeting held at its central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Nepali Congress will be protesting against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s move to dissolve the Lower House of the country, which has left political parties including the ruling Nepal Communist Party, and general public, in confusion and dilemma.

Demonstrations will be carried out in all 165 constituencies (of House of Representatives) in the country, NC has declared, against what is viewed as an unconstitutional and undemocratic act on the part of the Prime Minister.

The controversial dissolution of HoR — recommended by PM Oli and swiftly approved by the President — has also led to the formal splitting up of NCP that held two-thirds majority in the parliament.
