Mainali wins Indian envoy golf tourney

KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Mahendra Mainali claimed the title of the Indian Ambassador’s Invitational Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the 12-handicap amateur Mainali accumulated 41 points to finish first. Along with the trophy, Mainali received Callaway epic flash driver.

Suhrid Ghimire came second on the count back after he was tied with Pradeep Kumar Shrestha and Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki.

Ghimire scored 22 points on back nine, while Shrestha earned 15 and Karki got 14. Ghimire received trophy and Callaway epic flash 3-wood.

Sadbhav Acharya won the gross section trophy with 38 points. Acharya received Callaway big bertha hybrid.

Kashmira Shah claimed the women’s section title with 37 points and she got Callaway epic flash 3-wood. Rekha Ghimire came second with 33 points.

Pradeep Kumar Shrestha won the senior category trophy with 36 points and he received Odyssey putter.

Aaiesteena Tanadan won the junior section title with 27 points and she got Callaway big bertha rescue. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus won the most birdies title, while Purna Bahadur Rai and Dawa J Sherpa claimed the closestto-the-pin and longest drive awards respectively. Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki got the best front-nine award with 23 points, while Wangchen Dhondup got the best backnine award with 18 points.

Charlie Gurung received the most pars award after he saved 13 pars.

A total of 82 golfers took part in the two-day event organised by Embassy of India in Kathmandu under the sponsorship of Nepal SBI Bank, Mahindra, ISME Pvt Ltd, Tata Motors, Dabur and Pernod Ricard.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan, CEO and MD of Nepal SBI Bank Dipak Kumar De and Executive Director of Agni Group Arjun Prasad Sharma handed over the prizes to the winners.
