The Immunization Section housed under the Family Welfare Division has sourced 1.6 million Vero Cell from China, and these doses will be used to vaccinate people who are above 55 years of age. The vaccines reached Nepal on Thursday and Saturday.
Half of the shipment was distributed among four provinces, and the vaccination started in Province 2, Gandaki, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces. Province 1, Karnali, and Sudur Pashchim are still awaiting their individual shares of the vaccines.
Apart from Vero Cell vaccines, Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to Nepalis above 50 years of age. However, this vaccination will begin in the next phase.

Additionally, the globetrotting Nepalis will be administered Vero Cell. Along with the people of various professions aged above 55 years, who were earlier ignored for the vaccination, stand eligible for the Vero Cell vaccination.
Dr. Tara Nath, family welfare division director, stated that vaccinating people aged above 50 years would be feasible only if there is no vaccine shortage. Also, China will be sending another 1.6 million vaccine doses to Nepal.
