Nepal Receives 1 Million ‘CoviShield’ Vaccines from India!

As a part of an agreement signed with the Indian Government, Nepal on Sunday received one million doses of CoviShield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

An aircraft of Air India carrying the consignment of COVID-19 vaccines landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport on February 21, 2021.

The Nepali Government signed an agreement with SII on February 17 to purchase 2 million doses of vaccine. The remaining 1 million vaccines are scheduled to arrive within March 7, 2021.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the vaccines received from India will be stored in the cold room at Teku. The vaccines will be distributed to the vaccination centers across the country through the state health supply management centers and district health offices. In this phase, people above 55 years will be vaccinated.

‘CoviShield’ Vaccines from India

Likewise, the Nepali Government is also making preparations to import the CoviShield vaccine through the COVAX facility within mid-March.

According to Dr. Jhalak Sharma Gautam, in-charge of the Child Health and Vaccination Section under the Department of Health Services, Nepal would receive vaccines from COVAX to administer around 20% of the population.

So far, around 384,000 people have been inoculated in the ongoing first phase of the nationwide vaccination drive.

Nepal Reports 80 New COVID Cases and 0 Deaths!

In the last 24 hours, Nepal has reported a total of 80 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the nation’s caseload to 2,73,431.

However, there are no additional coronavirus-related death cases, keeping the death toll at 2,061.

Meanwhile, around 121 patients have recovered from the infection, taking the country’s total recovery cases to 2,69,876. Currently, there are 1,494 active cases in Nepal.

Whereas in abroad countries, a total of 60,630 Nepalis were confirmed infected with coronavirus, and 336 lost their lives. So far, 59,120 patients have recovered.
