Nepal Receives 150 COVID-19 ICU Beds From India

Supporting Nepal’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic, The Indian Government has handed over 150 ICU beds to the Himalayan nation.

During a special ceremony at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra presented the beds to the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.

On occasion, Ambassador Vinay reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Nepal in combating the pandemic, including the revival of the critical healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Appreciating the gesture from the Indian Government, Minister Karki mentioned that the latest support from the neighboring nation would be a crucial milestone in Nepal’s fight against COVID-19.

“Since the start of the pandemic, India has provided grant assistance to Nepal worth around USD 6.5 million through the supply of essential medicines, RT-PCR tests, ventilators, and essential medicines,” said Minister Karki.

“Nepal was one of the first countries to receive 1 million doses of Covishield vaccines from India in January 2021 as a grant.”

He also said that “the Indian Army has supplied 100,000 doses of vaccines to the Nepal Army as grant and medical supplies including BIPAP machines, antigen kits, PPE, masks, ambulances and ICU beds.”
