Nepal’s under-19 men’s cricket national team is psyched about participating in the upcoming World Cup, but the coronavirus pandemic played the spoilsport.
Citing the COVID-19 conundrum, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has cancelled Asia Qualifiers for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022.
With this, the Himalayan nation’s dream to play the World Cup has shattered. Along with Nepal, other Asian nations, including the UAE, Malaysia, Kuwait, Oman, and Singapore lost their chance to appear in the international tournament.
Likewise, the ICC cancelled qualification tournament of America and the East Asia Pacific (EAP).
However, the Council has decided to organize qualifiers of Europe and Africa.
As the American, Asian, and EAP Qualifiers have been cancelled, the ICC has selected the teams based on their performance in the last five World Cup Qualifiers.
Accordingly, the UAE from Asia, Papua New Guinea from the EAP, and Canada from the America have been automatically selected for the World Cup.
