Nepal Police Club karateka Biplov Shrestha won the above-84kg weight category gold medal in the first Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Memorial National Karate Championship here at the International Sport Complex today.
The 13th South Asian Games gold medallist, Shrestha defeated Aashish Lama of Bagmati Province in the final.
Sagar Raut of Province-I and Bipen Raj Singh Dorjee of Tribhuvan Army Club finished joint third.
Rajan Khadka of Province-I beat Suresh Jagrel of TAC in the below-84kg section final, while NPC’s Diwas Shrestha and Prakash Khadka finished third. Likewise, Gangaram Kusuwar of NPC won 75kg section gold medal after beating Roshan Balami of Bagmati Province, while Krishna Bista of Lumbini Province and Mohammad Sheikh Alam came third.
Also, Santosh Shrestha of Bagmati Province defeated Roshan Bhatta of Sudurpashchim Province to win the 60kg weight category gold medal, whereas Sonam Raya Gharti Magar of Lumbini and Saroj Paswan of Madhes Province finished joint third.
In women’s section, Kusum Khadka of TAC won 45kg section gold medal beating Parsiya Chaudhary of Madhes Province, while Dipa Lama of Nepal APF Club and Nisha Thapa of Sudurapashchim Province came third.
Also, Misli Shrestha of TAC won 50kg weight category gold, while Anita Pun Magar of Lumbini Province bagged silver. Sonu Shrestha of Bagmati and Elina BK of APF finished third.
Sony Rai of NPC defeated Bidhya Kala Rai of Province-I in the final of 55kg section, while Gita BK of Lumbini and Manisha Chaudhary of APF were third. Likewise, Anupama Magar of APF bagged the above-68kg section gold medal beating Sunny Tamang of TAC, whereas Soniya Moktan of Bagmati and Erika Gurung of NPC finished third. Also, Nirupa Tamang of TAC claimed the below-68kg weight category gold after she defeated Dayana Ojha of APF, while the 13th SA Games gold medallist Sunita Maharjan of NPC and Shraddha Thapa of Bagmati came third.
On Thursday, Mahasus Moktan of NPC won men’s individual kata section gold and Swornim Manandhar of APF bagged silver. Prabin Manandhar of TAC and Rohit Rai of Province-I came third. NPC karatekas Anil Chaudhary, Swornim Manandhar and Yuvaraj Singh claimed team kata gold medal, while TAC team of Jawari Lal Khatri, Prabin Manandhar and Binay Limbu won silver. NPC and Province-I finished joint third.
In women’s section, Nirmala Tamang of NPC won individual jata gold and Sangita Magar of TAC bagged silver, while Sarita Shrestha of APF and Pratikshya Pakhrin of Province-I came third. In team event, NPC’s Chanchala Danuwar, Saru Karki and Nirmala Tamang won gold, while Sarita Magar, Rina Shrestha and Subhadra Ramtel of TAC bagged silver.
Province-I and Bagmati Province won bronze medals.
A total of 210 players from seven provinces and three departmental teams are taking part in the three-day tournament organised by Nepal Democratic Sports Association and Lalitpur District Main Dojo under the sponsorship of Samjhana Laboratory Clinic. The tournament will also serve as preliminary selection for the Hangzhou Asian Games to be held later this year in China.
