National Sports Council senior officer Kul Bahadur Thapa on Wednesday resigned from the sports governing body.

Thapa, who was appointed the acting member secretary in the absence of Tanka Lal Ghising after former Member Secretary Ramesh Kumar Silwal moved to court challenging government’s decision of sacking him and appointing Ghising. Thapa’s resignation came a day after the Supreme Court quashed Silwal’s writ petition paving way for Ghising to return to the NSC.

Ghising assumed the office on Wednesday. Thapa – who entered the NSC as the third-class officer – headed the administration, sports development, tournament and planning, press and publicity, and employee administration departments in his 26-year service. Thapa also worked as director of 13th South Asian Games opening and closing ceremonies.
