NSJF unveils five nominees in People's Choice category

KATHMANDU, MARCH 6

Nepal Sports Journalists Forum today announced five nominees in People’s Choice category of the Pulsar Sports Award.

Junior world No 1 badminton player Prince Dahal, national cricket team member Kushal Bhurtel, athlete Santoshi Shrestha, table tennis player Elina Maharjan and footballer Anjila Tumbapo Subba made it to the nominations, informed NSJF at a press meet.

The NSJF also signed eSewa as voting partner for the category.

NSJF President Durganath Subedi and eSewa Chief Manager Ashish Gautam exchanged the memorandum of understanding. The winner will be selected through public votes received through eSewa and social media along with national team coaches and sports journalists, said the organisers.

“We are a platform for costumers to pay online but we want to be recognised as sports lovers. We are always there to support the NSJF and its activities,” said Gautam. NSJF and eSewa will share the revenue generated from the voting, while the winner will receive a Pulsar motorcycle along with the award.

The NSJF is organising the 18th edition of the award ceremony at the Nepal Academy on March 22 and the Award features eight categories – Player of the Decade (male), Player of the Decade (female), Coach of the Decade, Para-athlete, Special, Lifetime Achievement, Asian Sports Journalist award and People’s Choice.

Winners of male, female, coach and people’s choice will get Pulsar motorcycle each, while other four awardees will receive Rs 50,000 apiece and gift hampers.

Footballer Subba said she was proud to be a part of the Award. “I am happy to be nominated in the award,” she said.

“I am grateful to my family, coaches and teammates for supporting me to able to reach this stage,” added Subba. Table tennis player Maharjan thanked the NSJF for motivating athletes. “I am happy to be one of the nominees and I believe the table tennis fraternity will be proud with this.”

Junior world No 1 shuttler Dahal said he was excited to be nominated for the second time. “I was also selected as a nominee in the previous edition and I am happy to find me here for the second time,” he said. Athlete Santoshi said such nominations would motivate players to perform better in the days to come. “I was nominated in women’s category and also shared the Special Award with Ayasha Shakya in the last edition. It’s an honour for us and it motivates athletes to put in more hard works,” said the 13th South Asian Games gold medallist.
