KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 24
The Central Committee meeting held by the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) today stripped Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal of executive power.
The Dahal-led faction had yesterday removed Oli from posts of party co-chair and parliamentary party leader.
Subas Chandra Nembang, who is close to Oli, told THT that Dahal was only stripped of his executive power and would continue to be a party co-chair. “We have not removed him from his position. We have decided not to oust any leader from our party.”
Yesterday, the Dahal-led NCP had removed Oli from the post of parliamentary party leader, replacing him with Dahal.
On December 22, the party suffered a vertical split, with both the factions claiming to be the authentic NCP.
Actions and counter actions of the two factions are aimed at seeking recognition from the Election Commission as authentic NCP.
With today’s decision, only Oli will wield executive power of the NCP.
Spokesperson for the Oli-led NCP Pradeep Gyawali said the government would now focus on expanding the Cabinet.
Seven ministers from the Dahal-faction had resigned en masse after Oli recommended dissolution of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
Gyawali told mediapersons after the CC meeting that the party would soon release its election manifesto.
The Oli faction has already submitted documents to the Election Commission on the decision of the Central Committee meeting and documents related to the recent amendments to the party statute. Spokesperson for the EC Raj Kumar Shrestha told THT that a formal decision on which faction was authentic NCP would be taken after holding discussion with lawmakers of the dissolved House in a few days.
