Oli upbeat about UML's poll prospects

CHITWAN, NOVEMBER 26

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today expressed confidence that his party would single-handedly secure majority to form the government in the next general elections.

Addressing his party’s 10th National General Convention on the banks of the Narayani River, Oli said his party would start preparing for polls after the general convention got over.

“Political instability is over.

Now, the country has to zero in on development and prosperity.

For this, the UML-led government is a must,” said Oli.

Oli stressed on bilateral talks with India regarding Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani, which his government had incorporated in the new map of Nepal. He talked about following the policy of maintaining equal distance from all neighbours and friendly countries. “We want to maintain cordial and friendly relationship with our neighbours,” Oli added.

He said every country, be it rich, poor, large, or small, was equal and every nation should be treated based on equality and mutual co-existence.

“UML wants to move ahead with collaboration and mutual understanding,” said Oli.

Oli condemned the five-party alliance and said those who had unseated him from power and prevented him from functioning were creating hurdles for Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as well.

At the programme, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba stressed the need to have common understanding among political parties on the issues pertaining to people and the country.

He extended his best wishes for the success of the UML’s general convention.

CPN-Maoist Centre leader Lilamani Pokhrel, Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal’s Upendra Yadav, and Loktantrik Samjabadi’s Chair Mahantha Thakur also extended their best wishes for the success of the UML’s general convention.

The party’s closed-door session will take place in Sauraha on November 27 and 28. The convention will conclude after electing the party’s new leadership.
