POKHARA, APRIL 2

Pro Bal Bhadra Rai and his team of Phursang Lama, Raju Thakali and Kabi Thapa won the Pro-Am title of the Surya Nepal Western Open here at the Himalayan Golf Course today.

Played under stableford full handicap format, Rai scored 36 points, while Lama earned 38 points.

Thakali and Thapa scored 37 points each as the team accumulated 148 points to finish first. Nepal No 1 pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti and amateurs Badri Rai, Kishor Basnet and Col Jhalendra Bhattarai came second with 139 points. Pro Nagarkoti had 35 points, while Rai scored 36.

Basnet and Bhattarai contributed 34 points each.

Likewise, the team of pro Sanjay Lama (33) and amateurs Sushma Sigdel (33), Arsiya Banu (33) and Brig Gen Suresh Baniya (32) accumulated 131 points to finish third. Maj Damber Ghale and Rupendra Gurung won the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive awards respectively.

Durga Kumari Shah got special prize for Hole-in- One on Hole No 13. A total of 80 golfers – 70 amateurs and 10 pros – took part in the Pro-Am event.

Amateur golfer Subash Tamang won the Western Open title on Friday with the 54-hole score of even-par 204. Pro Jayram Shrestha was second at 208, while Rame Magar, Dhana Bahadur Thapa and Niraj Tamang shared the third position.

Meanwhile, Nepal Golf Association President Tashi Ghale handed over Rs 100,000 and 1,000 golf balls to Youth Development Committee of NGA Kaski.

The committee will use the cash and balls for the development of golf, basically to start youth and girls development programme in the district.
