KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 24
Traffic has increased at major entry points into Kathmandu Valley as people who left the capital for Dashain have begun returning after receiving tika and blessings.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) reported increased vehicle movement along the Nagdhunga–Kalanki, Jadibuti–Koteshwor, Tinpiple, Jagati in Bhaktapur, Bhattedanda and Dakshinkali–Pharping routes.
KVTPO chief Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle said traffic police had been deployed at key points to ease congestion and facilitate travel. Spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi said monitoring had been stepped up to manage the growing traffic flow and reduce the risk of road accidents.
Around 1,000 vehicles, ranging from private cars and motorcycles to public transport, pass through the valley’s entry points daily, Subedi said.
According to KVTPO data, 576,578 people left the valley in 79,676 vehicles between Ghatasthapana on October 11 and October 20 to celebrate Dashain.
