Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has initiated the first step in improving international ties with Nepal by congratulating Sher Bahadur on his ascension to the Prime Ministerial position.
As per Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary of State called Sher over the telephone and discussed matters which ranged from bilateral relations to COVID-19 vaccine assistance.
The newly appointed Prime Minister appreciated USA’s assistance as the western nation had supplied 1.5 million doses to Nepal. He requested Blinken to continue the assistance by supplying vaccines that can be used for kids and the younger populace.
The Prime Minister expressed that this vaccination of the younger populace as part of his efforts to mitigate the speculated third wave better. They also discussed Nepal’s current development priorities.
“The two sides discussed about the issue of global warming and climate change and its impact on the economies of climate vulnerable mountainous countries like Nepal,” the MoFA said in the statement.
After expressing his commitment to human rights and democracy, Sher asked Blinken to convey his regards to President Biden and Vice President Harris and reiterated his keenness to work with the Biden administration.
