No confidence motion registered after House dissolution: Parliament Secretariat

KATHMANDU: The motion of no confidence against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was registered at the parliament secretariat after the House of Representatives was dismantled on December 20.

According to a press statement released by the Federal Parliament Secretariat, on Wednesday, the no-confidence motion — addressed to the Speaker of the House — was lodged against PM Oli on Sunday. This was registered at the business advisory section of the secretariat at 3:30 pm.

Office of the President had officially declared dissolution of the country’s Lower House at around 2:20 pm on Sunday.

The parliament secretariat issued the notice after its attention was drawn to various news published in media regarding time of registration of the motion, stated parliament spokesperson Rojnath Pandey.

The motion of no confidence was registered at the parliament by the Dahal-Nepal side against PM Oli.

On Sunday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli took the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives. The PM’s recommendation was then swiftly approved by the President, while also announcing fresh mid-term elections to be held in two rounds in April-May in 2020.

Meanwhile, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) went through a vertical split on Tuesday, with the rival factions of the party claiming their faction to be the authentic NCP. The faction led by co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal removed PM Oli from the post of party co-chair and unanimously nominated senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the new party co-chair.
